Night Nav '19

Welcome to the homepage for NIGHT NAV, the Adventure Navigation series of races organised by the Bivouac Outdoor Southerly Storm orienteering team. NIGHT NAV has been running since the turn of the century and has returned for another year!

NIGHT NAV events for 2019 will be held at Victoria ParkBottle Lake, and Halswell Quarry all on the edge of Christchurch. Competitors have one hour to walk, run or mountain bike through the forest collecting checkpoints, which are shown on the map handed out just before the start. Runners and walkers can cut across the forest, through the sand dunes, whereas the mountain bikers will navigate their way through the track networks to find the controls.

Online registration here

Registration on the night is from 6pm with a mass start at 7pm. There will be a briefing shortly before the start when the maps will be handed out.

The events for 2019 are as follows with a mountain bike option available at Bottle Lake:

  • Wed 11th September - Victoria park (Main carpark by the playground)
  • Wed 18th September – Bottle Lake (with MTBO) (end of Bower Ave)
  • Wed 25th September – Halswell Quarry (Carpark by base of quarry, furthest up access road)

What its is all about:
Competitors walk, run or mountain bike through the forest collecting checkpoints, which are shown on the map handed out just before the start. Runners and walkers can cut across the forest and through the sand-dunes whereas mountain bikers must stick to the tracks.

All competitors have one hour to collect as many checkpoints as possible before returning, often in a rush, to the finish. You can compete in teams or individual, its a great social adventure. Get some friends together and give it a go! Thanks to Bivouac/Outdoor, Peak Fuel, Studio 6, and the Lolly Shop for helping us to keep this event going!
