Night Nav '21

Welcome to the homepage for NIGHT NAV, the Adventure Navigation series of races organised by the Bivouac Outdoor Southerly Storm orienteering team. NIGHT NAV has been running since the turn of the century and has returned for another year!

NIGHT NAV events for 2021 will be held at Mcleans Island, Spencer Park and Halswell Quarry all on the edge of Christchurch. Competitors have one hour to walk, run or mountain bike through the forest collecting checkpoints, which are shown on the map handed out just before the start. Runners and walkers can cut across the forest, through the sand dunes, whereas the mountain bikers will navigate their way through the track networks to find the controls.

The events for 2021 are as follows with a mountain bike option available at Spencer Park:

  • Wed 15th September - Mcleans Island (Usual recreation park area)
  • Wed 22nd September – Spencer Park (Off Heyders Rd, next to the holiday park)
  • Wed 29th September – Halswell Quarry (Off Kennedys Bush Rd, next to the Japanese gardens)
There is a briefing at 6.45pm before the mass start at 7.00pm. Please turn up between 6-6.30pm to collect ID chip and prepare.

What its is all about:
Competitors walk, run or mountain bike through the forest collecting checkpoints, which are shown on the map handed out just before the start. Runners and walkers can cut across the forest and through the sand-dunes whereas mountain bikers must stick to the tracks.

All competitors have one hour to collect as many checkpoints as possible before returning, often in a rush, to the finish. You can compete in teams or individual, its a great social adventure. Get some friends together and give it a go! Thanks to Bivouac/Outdoor, Studio 6 and Ground Effect.

Here is a legend for navigation:
